"Mega-Bobrovka" (my own guitar replica)
History
First of all I must tell you about guitar industry in USSR.
in the USSR there was no production of acoustic guitars, and there were no own design developments. Therefore, the classical (Spanish) guitar was taken as the basis of the "folk" one. Of course, it could not withstand the tension of the metal strings and broke. The neck came off, the nut came off, the top deck broke out. Fortunately, there were excellent engineers in the USSR, they solved the problem as simply as possible: the neck was bolted on, the nut was bolted on, the soundboard was slightly changed, so it turned out to be a Soviet acoustic guitar, simple and reliable. Unfortunately, these design changes had a negative impact on playability. The neck, fixed with 1 bolt, staggered, the guitar did not keep the system well, the height of the strings was large, it was practically impossible to rebuild according to the scale. Secondly, there were no guitar factories in the USSR, so guitars were produced at furniture factories, the wood was not of the best quality, poorly dried, which led to disastrous consequences. Soviet guitars were more furniture than musical instruments.
Name
In the people, guitars were often called by the factory manufacturer. For example, "Leningradka" meant that the guitar was made in Leningrad, "Lunacharka" at the plant. Lunacharsky. "Bobrovka" at a plant in the city of Bobrovsk. These names have become household names.
Returning to "Bobrovka", "bobr" in Russian means beaver, so there is a version that the guitars were called that because the quality of their workmanship was as if a beaver had gnawed them out.
My Story
This is my first guitar. I bought it in 2018. I really wanted to learn how to play the guitar, I had 2500 rubles, which is about 50 dollars. And I found several options on Avito (something like ebay), after consulting with friends, I discarded the bad options, leaving only 2. The first was a Chinese hohner made of fiberboard, and the second was a Soviet-type guitar made of plywood. Plywood is stronger than hardboard, so I bought a beaver. I studied for about a week on YouTube lessons, and then abandoned and delivered the guitar once a month. And then came covid19. My strings broke, but there was no extra money to buy them, and all the music stores in my city were closed. And then I made homemade nichrome strings from iron, copper winding for a transformer and fishing line for fish weighing up to 5 kg. They were terrible, I tuned in a tone lower, otherwise they were torn. But then I started to learn how to play the guitar. After the quarantine was lifted, I bought new strings and finally learned the basic chords. My guitar is slowly starting to get stickers. after a while I started to get out to perform on the street and play with friends at a picnic. By that time I already had an electric guitar, my skills were growing, but I wanted an overdrive. Therefore, in the deck, near the nut, I attached a thick film that touched the strings and loaded the sound. I also glued the hole for the bolt and the neck did not stagger. But the most interesting thing began six months ago, when I bought a piezo pickup for aliexpress and when my soundboard began to peel off. I took it apart completely, installed a piezo pickup over the sound hole, and reassembled it. But soon I completely peeled off the paint from it and began to do something terrible. Behind the bridge, I made a hole where I installed a homemade kind of combo amplifier with overdrive. To do this, I had to remove the reinforcing rail (which I later regretted). The speaker cover was made from birch bark coated with epoxy resin. Below I made an image of the Catalina plane, which I really like. About a month ago, the soundboard began to tear out, the guitar gradually became an archtop. Therefore, inside, I installed a spacer between the upper and lower decks, and also changed the gain adjustment potentiometer and made the splitting of the operating modes in the runic alphabet. And I made a brass nut. Set the strings to 13-gauge, as the changes to the body made the guitar not resonate as well and become quieter. And so I made it in sp. But yesterday I decided to finish it again. I installed a single with Alnico 5 at 5.6kOhm and made a pickup mixer. I also glued the single with birch bark, I also made new handles from birch bark. I absolutely love this guitar. It is very compact, weighs 2.5kg, sounds a little louder than a regular acoustic, flat neck, string height 2.5mm above the 12th fret, quite suitable for playing simple punk rock fifth chords. The overload is pleasant, a little fuzzy, all electronics are powered by a 18650 battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh, the charge lasts more than 4 hours. The power of the amplifier is 3W, but this is enough. The case is unpainted, impregnated with bath impregnation, not afraid of water and rain, extremely pleasant to the touch.
It's a weird guitar overall, but I like it. Craft is very schematic, but I am too lazy to make it more detalized
