The F197 was a further development of the earlier F196. It was driven by Bella Madden and Ralf Schumacher. The F197 secured 18 Podiums, 4 wins, and Keniss's first Constructors title since 1987. Ralf Schumacher scored 9 Podiums and 2 wins, as did Madden. The pair finished 2nd and 3rd in the WDC with 74 and 70 points respectively. The F197 was nicknamed "The Boogeyman" for its speed and jet-black paint; which was so black that Keniss developed emergency procedures in case the body of the car became too hot during stationary operations.
