Bolton-Dragomir A-23 Gladius
Planned in 1940 and introduced in 1942, the A-23 was a heavy fighter aircraft that was very expensive yet effective. The aircraft took a long time to actually construct on the assembly line, as some of the parts for the A-23 were confused with the A-20. Eventually in 1943, both companies made most of the interior parts universal, fitting in either aircraft. The A-23 was first given to squadrons in the Pacific, with one of the most famous examples being this aircraft. The A-23s were used until 1947 and they were used as trainers until the early 1950s. Only 417 were ever produced and the majority were either shot down or scrapped. The A-23 famously destroyed many convoys and vehicles in the Pacific theatre and the most being in Gaudalcanal were hundreds of supplies were destroyed on one raid by only 4 of these aircraft. The A-23 not only destroyed ground vehicles, but also destroyed over 126 aircraft throughout the war. It has 4 500 pound bombs and 2 12.7mm and 2 20mm main guns. This specific model , nicknamed Serenade in Blue, was one of the aircraft to take place on the famous guadalcanal raid and undergo many other missions in the pacific. 2 to activate landing gear and vtol to raise them, 3 to drop fuel tanks.
