The Type 1 LRE (Long Range Escort) was used as the initial escort for Air Batallion 17's bombers. More than capable of keeping up with the giant 4 engined biplanes. Despite being a quickly thrown together stopgap until a better dedicated fighter could be made, they stuck around until the end of the Grand War in a variety of roles, all being escort in some fashion. One Air Platoon, AP 34, deliberately painted their aircraft in bright blues and white with all having a solid blue tail, for good reason. The AP of bombers they were escorting had the lowest loss rate to airplane interception in the war. Less than 5%.
