F-111 Aardvark
~~~~OPERATIONAL AT HIGHEST SETTINGS~~~~
(Tested on iPad)
Group 1, 2 = Napalm Canisters
Group 3 = Variable Wing Activation (VTOL Down)
The General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark was a supersonic, medium-range interdictor and tactical Attack aircraft that also filled the roles of strategic bomber, aerial reconnaissance, and electronic warfare in its various versions. Developed in the 1960s by General Dynamics, it first entered service in 1967 with the United States Air Force.
The F-111 pioneered several technologies for production aircraft, including variable-sweep wings, afterburning turbofan engines, and automated terrain-following radar for low-level, high-speed flight. Its design influenced later variable-sweep wing aircraft, and some of its advanced features have since become commonplace.
The F-111 was an all-weather attack aircraft, capable of low-level penetration of enemy defenses to deliver ordnance on the target. It featured an internal weapons bay that could carry bombs, a removable 20 mm M61 cannon, or auxiliary fuel tanks. The craft also had rotating pylons on the wings on which external munitions were fitted.
@planelover400, I gotta admit, I came close to giving up and scrapping this project. This was the most challenging build I have done so far! But I got her done and in working order. She flies very well when the wings are fully extended, but is nose tippy when they are retracted (because the CoL shifts further behind the CoM). Also, shoutout to @katrina for the bomb-tail design.
Enjoy this Cold War innovator, and be sure to drop your payload before retracting the wings!
4,227 GeebersHey Scriefers, could you possibly check out my P-80? I tried to make one but the ends are hard. If you could give me any suggestions it would make my day:) You don't have to but thank you for the inspiration!9.7 years ago
15.9k AllstarQuit being a Scriefers groupie. Sure he's good, but nobody can be called the best. Everybody has their forte and Scriefers just makes a lot of large, detailed aircraft @planelover4009.7 years ago
25.5k Scriefers@xopher206, cool! Yeah I had two medium engines in the rear too but scrapped them. I lost the additional speed but got better turning performance by bringing the CoM closer to the CoL.9.7 years ago
3 XOPHER206I love this plane, per my taste I modified it to have 2 more med jets at the tail and one turbofan in the nose and airbrakes. It flies more level with the wings back now and achieves 750+9.7 years ago
