Lavochkin La-6

30.0k Dumpworks  7.2 years ago

This was designed as a high-speed fighter, though the Soviet's wanted to use turbosupercharger in this fighter, though in order to quickly get thier hands on one they tried to order American Republic P-47's, they got about 200 though when they were flown the P-47 was though to be a "heavy flying target" and not a fighter, so they just dismnatled the the turbosupercharger portion of the Pratt & Whitney engine, but of course the engine used on the La-5, the Shvestov ASh-82, wasn't able to fit the turbosupercharger easily without extreme modicfications, funding was cut to the La-6 project becuase modifing the the Shvestov was taking longer than expected, this development eventually led up to Lavochkin's La-7
