Description

The Rulfalka Class Large Cruiser was part of Project Apollo and Project Artemis which was a ship building project of the Volksian navy for a class of ships to use the same hulls, machinery, and superstructure, essentially this was to simplify the maintenance on the ships and to confuse the enemy via visual means as the ships at a distance will look very similar, This lead to the development of 2 ship classes, The Rulfalka Class Large Cruisers, and the Kishar Class heavy Cruisers(Coming soon)

The Rulfalka Class Large Cruisers are known to its designers as BK ships or "Armored Ships" and share the same design traits from Germanys Deutschland Class Cruisers utilizing large caliber guns in 2 turrets on a cruiser like hull.

It all started in 1935 when Volksian naval designers have designed a new type of ship with some technical help from the germans, one that mixes a battlecruisers armament with Heavy Cruiser size and armor, this new ship type has been christened by the engineers and designers as "Bronirovannyy korabl'"(BK) or in other words "Armored Ship", the proposed design of the ship had 6x 12 inch L/50 guns later increased to 8x 14 inch L/50 guns and other smaller dual purpose guns and torpedoes, and with an armored belt of only 100mm to reduce the ships weight and increase top speed.

VSS Rulfalka was laid down in the summer of 1937 and she was completed in winter 1940 due to a problem with the manufacturer of the ships propeller shafts and water pumps, she was immediately sent out for sea trials where she met all her expectations, she had accurate guns, a good top speed, and decent maneuverability which was praised by then Admiral Rjeikah Blumund, she completed her sea trials and was commissioned in the spring of 1941.
