@TheScrapyard I mean, from what I’ve observed, on the internet in general, quick, low-effort but “funny” stuff get viral much easily than actual good stuff, because gen z humour. (me fr)
On SP itself, a 50-part plane made with the most basic parts and covered in airbrakes has over 600 upvotes, for no particular reason. (Of course, I’m talking about the German Corsair.)
So yeah, that’s really just how it works. Gaining popularity is indeed about making things that are trendy, interesting and entertaining for a minute or two.
Although, for me personally, builds that I put effort into actually get a lot of attention. I don’t really know why, but I think it’s because I connected with those who share the same interests as me. (In my case, I build airliners and liveries, and I got to know a bunch of people who also like airliners, now they’ve become loyal supporters.)
It’s just my take on the situation, I really have no idea what your SP journey was like, so don’t take this too seriously.
@TheScrapyard vast majority was within a month of when it came out. It’s really not to do with popularity, you just gotta make something good and interesting. That does take time and effort but if you do it right, you’ll get good results. The part I think you feel is unfair is when you put in effort for something you think is very good but then it doesn’t get the reception you feel it deserves because people can’t see the effort you put into the build. Again, just takes time and practice
@TheScrapyard it applies to all other challenges too; if your build skills aren’t good enough, the chance of you winning any challenge is extremely low. That’s the point of a challenge; it’s to challenge your skills and make yourself better than everyone else.
Also, even if you’re a “nobody” (i.e. bronze/silver user), if your build is good enough it can still get a ton of upvotes. Look at this Su-30 made by a 0 points user (he got to silver because of his plane), or even this 90 part Soviet-like jet.
NOTE: In the event that two people are equal, I will resort to the number of downloads.

@ToeTips 😔
I should have joined this challenge tbh. I was making the Hyperhornet at the time and it would have gotten third...
@MrCOPTY
Just wondering what the results for 2nd and 3rd place were?
Also will you make a forum about the overall outcome?
@RepublicOfCursedPlanes lol, I Upvote All Your Planes Before That Win Expect 8, IDK What Will Do, May I Will Create An Alt To Delivery The Other 62 Temorow.
@MrCOPTY thanks! Honestly, I'm just happy that my D-01 got so much reception, and because of my challenge a lot of people know about my plane.
Congratulations For Winning @RepublicOfCursedPlanes !
Note:
Only 70 (Sorry, But There Is Only One Winner, And Even 70 Still Big Price For A Challenge), And I'm Just Checking The Challenge, I Will Delivery Points Later, Thx For Joining Hope You Enjoy Your Price!
@MrCOPTY so, uh how are you going to give out 140 upvotes? Lol
@RepublicOfCursedPlanes ive been playing for about 8 years. 3 accounts and varying success. No real pattern or anything. Even got to platinum on my original account before the email linked to it got stolen, probably unrelated to sp. But it seems that what you say is true. Has been for all these years. Crap sells, gold doesn't. Unless you grind forever to build a community around your account and style is practically impossible to compete with meme accounts. And its not like I can dump all my time into this game since ive got work and college and maintaining my apartment to spread my resources thin. I try and post a few times a year but that just isn't enough to gain a following
@RepublicOfCursedPlanes your responses are more focused than my adhd ones lol
@TheTomatoLover true.
This reminds me, when I was still silver (about 2000 points), I made a simple Turbo Lines livery and somehow got 50 upvotes within the first 4 days.
And this popularity wasn’t because of my skill or thumbnail (the thumbnail font is really bad), but because it’s from TFS. (My other liveries at the time had 15 upvotes maximum.)
It shows that, a lot of the time, the “trendiness” or weirdness of something matters equally, or even more, than the effort put into it.
(why am I typing so much every single time lol)
@RepublicOfCursedPlanes due to you having a lot of followers, and kind of have a advanced style of building (PLUS being gold), you’ll usually get more points. Not being negitive, but since this site sadly has the low tier or low quality planes with bare minimum, or ones that make more upvotes. (I paused at this sentence and lost my trail of thought trololol adhd go brrrr :P)

@Mustang51 its not that i THINK my planes are good. They ARE good. At least in my primary line of posts. But because im only gold on that account they wont get the same reception as a platinum shitpost.
For instance:
https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/QXQRf8/KONSTFLYG-8-Golden-Swede
Im especially proud of my latest craft, spent nearly 2 months of 3 hours a day after work.
This build on my primary account had barely gotten any attention compared to something like this.
https://www.simpleplanes.com/a/jwGUgN/5-headed-airplane
And its less than 2 weeks old.
Just the knowledge that some piece of actual shitpost garbage could beat out something someone put weeks into is just disheartening.
@32 👍
@MrCOPTY ah I see what you're saying.
@32 Yes But Not The Same Rate (Every Successor Upvote Give You Only 7, Here Every Upvote Give You 10 Points, And User Points Don't Show You Spots, But Here You Will Claim 25 Point Par Spot...)
@MrCOPTY no really, you can do it. You do have to choose the time period you're looking at.
