Airborne auto turret

HI

* Auto turret but it is airborne!!!!!!! *

Or you can find those GIF here in the case of it not showing.

I've always want to make my own auto turret and finally I made it, after taking apart countless other's turret and re-learning some physics lol.
I made it in "piggy bag" configuration because this plane serve as a testbed to my new TLS laser for ADFX-02 Morgan, if relatively slow velocity bullet work just fine laser will work too!!

It was not easy to make an auto turret like this so here is a list of known issues.
- The turret is raised behind and above the cockpit so there will be some parallax problem. I managed to fix vertical parallax problem but I didn't fix the horizontal parallax because it make the aim off by about 50cm which is not a problem.
- I have no idea how bullets in SP decelerate in flight so I didn't code them in the turret that's mean at longer range (above 2.5 km) the aim will be off by a lot.
- Gimbal lock problem. This cause inaccuracy in steep dive or climb, you can google it for more info.

Features:

  • 15 degrees cone of fast firing minigun that track and lead target automatically.
  • Almost unstable flight model with fly-by-Funky-tree.
  • Carrier operational.

Controls:

  • AG2: Tail hook.
  • AG8: Toggle Fly-by-Funky-tree system.

Enjoy

Ps. the minigun I used is XML moded a little bit.(more fire rate, 1000m/s muzzle velocity, tracer color)

tbh it's been too long I can't remember the code lol.
I think there are a number at the end of the code that is in the form of clamp(some FT formular)/15, you can edit that 15 to firing arc you want and edit the range of motion of the rotator to match the 15 you just edit in the code.
And you need to do this 2 time, for vertical and horizontal rotator.

Greetings! Sorry for bothering, but can you make that turret to rotate for only 0.5-5 degrees upwards and 30-45 degrees down? I'd like to make some moderately realistic gun pods and turrets, similar to those steerable gun pods of USSR. Also, I'd like to know what numbers to change for vertical/horizontal parallax dependent on position of a gun relative to cockpit, because those pods may be positioned somewhere under the fuselage, or on the underwing hardpoints as well.

You can modify it the way you want I don't really mind it, as long as you credit.

Hey@ GuyFolk, your probably tired of reading this but can I tweak this to use this in a build of mine? I’ll credit you of course.

@GuyFolk hello the sage of fly-by-funkytree, im using your turret code for some builds im doing. may I credit you on the aircraft posts when im done with the builds?

Yes, but no accuracy guarantee if it is installed on other plane.

This is really a very accurate turret...Can I use it on my plane?

I think numbersnumberstheman’s turret just need pitch and roll stabilization.
Idk, I saw other do the same thing with his code and just add pitch and roll stabilization.

If you make a counter yaw rotator the gun will point to one direction only.
    Is that what you intended?

That ground base turret (I assume it is numbernumbertheman's) just act like they always lie perfectly flat on the ground.

There is no yaw code in my build.

@GuyFolk i have tested mounting a ground based turret to the top of ny aircraft, and though it can hit a plane accurately up to 7 mi, my plane must be perfectly stable, and below the target's altitude...

This coding appears to overcompensate for drift when flying knifedge, but it still aims correctly when sideways or vertical...

If i can somehow figure out how to decrease the compensation on this turret, or make my ground turret stable when sideways, then i can move on to my first phase in building a space cruiser. I will experiment around and see if i get any progress, and i may ask them what the coding stuff does..

    Just another set of rotator.
It is to move opposite direction of Rollangle and PitchAngle.
Take my build apart to find it, they are all in the pod.

There are no drop and I just assume deceleration is there by testing 0m/s bullet but I need more solid confirmation. (I just eyeballing it lol)
The code about targeting is provided by the dev themselves (WNP78), if I remember correctly.
