History

The F.T.R.C. 172 was an aircraft designed to be an attacker, that could also fit the role of a fighter if needed, in the 1960s during the Cold War. Due to this, it could carry a large payload, although it would greatly increase the amount of runway needed for takeoff. Since it’s unique design didn't allow an engine with an afterburner to be installed, it made due with a “boost” that could get it to about 530mph. The plane was commonly used in ground attack missions, specifically because of its bombs, but, in most cases it would be deployed to deal with enemy fighters, because of its missiles, large number of flares, and guns. The most common loadouts included 4 AAM-97 air to air missiles, and 2 AAM-120-12(MR) missiles, that could used against both air and land targets. It also had 4 20mm cannons, and could carry a decent assortment of bombs. It overall performed surprisingly well in its roles, and by the 1980s, about 1800 had been produced, with a large portion still in service with multiple air forces besides the RNPAF.

Controls

(Also in craft instructions)

Takeoff speed around 230mph (full flaps)
(200mph without payload)

Ag1- turn on nose wheel steering
Ag2- jettison bombs
Ag3- jettison wing missiles
Ag4- Airbrake
Ag6- jettison external fuel tanks
Ag7- open canopy
Ag8- turn off systems/parking break

When you go above 90% throttle, WEP activates, and you get a boost (No afterburner)

Notes

  • There’s an annoying issue that I though I fixed 20 different times at high speeds, where when you pull up really hard, the plane will (slightly) roll to the right. It’s pretty easy to counter, and it’ll stop rolling after a bit if you’re in a turn, but still.

  • one of my best looking jets yet!

  • lotta custom stuff: custom control surfaces, custom flaps (even though they’re bad cuz I forgot to add them originally), custom missiles, custom gear, so that’s cool.

  • thanks to DeveloperKorzalerke for solving an annoying simple takeoff problem

  • idk what else to say

Enjoy!
