The "Armycat" was Grummans' prototype for the US Armies super fighter program, the G-56 was simply a F6F "Hellcat" optimized for high altitude performance, though the simple conversion caused a major problem it's combat range, it had a smaller range than any of the other competitors, though the G-56 was a failure it did live on in Grummans G-58 "Bearcat"
