Custom Missile Technology Demonstrator Mk2

67 DerMeister7  2.4 years ago
Auto Credit Based on DerMeister7's AIM-108

A continuation of my custom missile build that includes multiple improvements. This missile uses regular parts only and guides entirely with custom written Funky Tree code and regular control surfaces actuated by rotors hidden at the attachment point of each rear wing.

Improvements include:

  • A improved detonation system that includes a Cleaver protruding from the nose for contact detonation and a Cleaver+Boom50 set to go off inside the nose on the closest distance from target (only below 150m)
  • Vastly improved handling using all-moving control surfaces on the rear of the missile with roll, pitch, and yaw controlled by four surfaces instead of twelve as before
  • Aerodynamics are far more stable at a wider range of speeds
  • Aesthetics are improved and form factor is much more realistic
  • Closure rate is automatically managed to reduce the chance of a hit registering due to excessive speed

Missile can be controlled normally via pitch, yaw, and throttle. Once a target is selected, activate group 1 to engage guidance and reduce throttle to 0% to allow the guidance system to control thrust.

Missile will use target elevation and heading rate to plot intercept course and will adjust engine throttle to manage closure rate to around 400m/s to target. This helps the proximity and contact detonation function correctly as higher speeds tend to just clip through the target.
