The Kraz-255 series of heavy military trucks was started in 1965 by Kremenchug Automobile in the Soviet Ukraine as a replacement for the previous Kraz-214. The Kraz-255B cargo truck is the base model of this series. The Kraz-255 has a more powerful engine than its predecessor, improvements in steering and tyres, and a load capacity of 7.5 tonnes, up from seven tonnes. The 255 and 214 are very similar in appearance, with the main difference being the appearance of the headlights. A replacement for kraz-255B, Kraz-260, is kraz-255B, which is widely used in the Warsaw Treaty Organization.
