E-59 Eyewatcher
History
The E-54 is a converted AWACS variant of the B-56
Eyewatcher and the B-54 Skystryke, the design was proposed in the 60s, in order to make an another use of the B-54, as it was being phased out by new strategic bombers, as a result, 68 B-54s were converted into the new E-54 design, the design also used the same system as the E-3 Sentry, and the E-767, the converted E-54 aircraft were succesful when they enetered service, and the Wright Air Force, imported their aircraft as licence-built versions, such as the E-54M for the Mayamar Air Force, and the Krakaboa Air Force, being the E-54E.
Due to new cheap AWACS aircraft introduced in the military aircraft market, each decade, E-54s are either scrapped or disassembled due to old age and maintenance costs increasing due to the low availability and the shortage of spare parts.
Today a few E-54s still remain in service, although in low combat numbers due to banned imports of the parts and the heavy sanctions to replace the old aircraft.
