Following Fokker's success in producing the F27 turboprop aircraft, Friendship decided to build a turbojet aircraft using the F27 experience, increasing the number of seats from 50 to 65. In April 1962, Fokker officially announced the launch of the F28 Fellowship product line. On 05/09/1967, the prototype F28-1000 made its first flight and the company was able to receive the production certificate of this aircraft on 02/24/1969. After entering service, Fokker developed several variants of the F28. The F28-2000 has a longer body length that can accommodate 79 passengers. The F28-4000 had quieter Rolls-Royce Spey 555-15H engines, a redesigned cabin and wings, and more seating capacity for up to 85 passengers. Production of the Fokker 70 and Fokker 100 ceased in 1987 following the introduction of the new aircraft. A total of 241 different models of this aircraft were produced.
