Lockheed P-38-F lightning (Glacier Girl)
Glacier Girl is a Lockheed P-38F Lightning, World War II fighter plane, 41-7630, c/n 222-5757, that was restored to flying condition after being buried beneath the Greenland ice sheet for over 50 years
What is playing is known for being stuck on rotten in the ice like a fossil for 50 years, wanna know how it happened, let’s go back to 15 July in 1942, it was operation bolero, and glacier girl what’s part of the 94th fighter squadron along with five other p-38s and two B-17 from Random bombardment unit were Forced To go back to the British Isles through Greenland and during that time it was a blizzard in which caused A pilots to get a poor sense of view for the pilots which caused all the pilots from both the fighters squadron and the bomber squadron including glacier girl crashed somewhere in the ice desert that is Greenland, good news is that all of the other pilots were found and rescued, bad news is that glacier girl and her pilot died in the crash land, I mean the pilot flying glacier girl was actually able to bail out but in my opinion I think he got lost and the freezing cold and eventually starved to death, glacier girl would become a fossil for 50 Years until 1992 when a history channel film crew Recording an episode for the history channel show mega movers (The episode being called extreme aircraft recovery) discovered glacier girl and decided to recover her, shortly after the recording of mega movers was done they decided to start going to work and fixing glacier girl and inspecting what happened, in 2002 the P 38 was finally done and fully recovered and fixed But was later (in 2007) damaged on the transatlantic flight from Teetersboro New Jersey to duxford England, As a way to finish the operation that it was supposed to finish back in 1942 But an engine leak in the right engine call‘s glacier girl to go back and land in Labrador where she would get repaired again, and she would also get a new pair of newly made Allison engines to replace the ones that were actually put on her way back in 2002, And on July 23 2007 she would return to the United States and to this very day still flying and is still on display to this very day she is still alive and can be found at airshows and at random times in an airport either because of a shortage on fuel or because the pilot was too tired. Later in 2007 Glacier girl would be sold To Rodney Lewis the CEO of Lewis energy.
9 Years Later
In April 2016 A group will be sent to the same crash site in Greenland in order to find other crashed P-38s
Which was actually their plan
For the first two P 38s they were gonna extract it and then donate it to a museum and then by two years later the team is searching the crash site in Greenland announce that another P 38 was discovered and nicknamed echo.
Glacier girl is still active to this very day and can be found as I said before in both random times at the airport and in most of the times airshows.
