MBT-5B

67.8k PINK  8.3 years ago

A version of the MBT-5, with a pan-shaped turret, more akin to a Soviet design. It is very low profile, when compared to almost all other designs.
The vehicle also mounts only the 132mm coil gun, meaning it's less versatile than the MBT-5A . . . although most other features are shared.

    Oh. Won't need to.

The 90mm is still in service due to its incredible APDS penetration power and small size, as well as the introduction of an effective HE round.

The 105mm coilgun is largely phased out due to its inferior AP abilities and the introduction of the 120mm coilgun. The only tanks that use it is M3 Avenger and M6/M6A1 Ardent, both which is employed by Army and Marine Reserves as well as the Armored Warfare Training Grounds near Dragot City.

The 120mm M5 and the 122mm KOR-AUT is an inferior gun to the 132mm KOR-AUT in terms of AP and HE performance.

We are not seeking to replace the 120mm or 90mm, since both have excellent AP performance, which we can improve with upgraded ammunition and for the 120mm, additional coils with better timings.

Our tank research has gone into building stealthier tanks in order to maximize the probability our machines will have the first-shot advantage. Because in a tank duel, it's not how big the gun is, it's how you use it. @PINK

It cannot mount he same weapons as the A versions, that is what I meant. @Pilotmario

I do not think this tank is less versatile because of that, though. Anything the smaller guns could do, the 132 could do better. @PINK

Unless they cannot reach the auto loader easily, we choose to never change out the weapon, because it would be a 8 day prcocess. @Pilotmario

@PINK Any competent engineer can rescale an autoloader for anything. Anyways, the 132mm gun could do anything smaller-caliber guns could do, but better.

Um, this thing's auto loader is the issue. @Pilotmario

If it can fit a 132, it can fit a 122mm or 120mm, let alone a 105mm or 90mm. The 105mm coilgun or 90mm railgun are light tank weapons. The M5E6 Victoria (M5A5 Victoria with 152mm Coilgun XM7) has been cancelled due to issues with crew egress and concerns about ammunition capacity. This is less of an issue for the M6E5 Ardent. @PINK

The turret is to small to mount the same caliber guns as the A Model. The A Model can mount a variety of calibers. @Pilotmario

Coilguns are highly versatile. They can fire both high-velocity anti-armor projectiles and low-velocity general purpose ammunition equally well, although they do have inferior anti-armor abilities compared to equal caliber railgun. That's why our main battle tanks use coilguns.
