SMCG TDAS-2 Armoured Support Trailer
In 2020 the Saltwater Marine Corps' Žaneta tank destroyers were replaced with the improved Žaneta 3s. Unfortunately, despite greatly improved performance and an increasingly capable gun the Žaneta 3 lacked the large storage space of the older models. To solve this problem SMCG was commissioned to build a suitable powered trailer to carry ammunition, supplies and men to support Žaneta artillery batteries.
.
The trailer is powered by a 200hp engine, which can be activated by the driver of the towing Žaneta to give extra power when needed. This engine uses a fuel supply located under the main compartments and powers the four innermost wheels. It is located at the front of the trailer in an armoured compartment which is recessed under the forward crew compartment. Also located under the crew compartments are a freshwater tank and the fuel supply. All are armoured with Kevlar and both tanks are self-sealing. They are accessed by hatches in the floor of the trailer.
Further storage is located on the sides of the vehicle.
.
The trailer is comprised of three main compartments. The rear-most contains space for up to six support troops or four combat troops, as well as all the rations they need for four days. Forward of this area and accessed through an internal door is the magazine. Here eighty artillery shells are carried on the left-hand side of the trailer to supply the main gun of the Žaneta. On the right is storage for small-arms ammunition (up to ten 200 round belts of 14.5mm bullets) and equipment for repairing the vehicles in the field.
.
At the front of the trailer is a first aid box and communications system. There is also room for an engineer to operate this equipment on the move. Both rear compartments are interchangeable in roles, and both can be configured for the same task if the mission requires.
.
The trailer is heavily armoured, with a full 35mm of armour plate surrounding the entire vehicle. Inside of this there is a further 5mm of Kevlar armour. Combined this can absorb hits by 15mm cannons and resist strikes by guns up to 30mm in calibre. For self-defence the trailer has a flare launcher, operated by either the designated crewmember or the Žaneta commander in the tow vehicle. Hatches are located in the front and rear of the trailer for crew access, although only the rear door is routinely used to avoid damaging the systems in the forward compartment. There is also a side-door in the magazine compartment for loading and unloading shells. A winch is provided for hauling the shells and other equipment.
.
AG2 releases the trailer from the tow vehicle.
AG3 activates the trailer's engine.
