Near the spring of 1943, the United States Army Air Force tasked the Edward Martin Aircraft Company to make a long range, high load bomber aircraft. Basing their design off of the already popular PT-1A, they planned to have a tilt-rotor bomber aircraft in production by 1945. However, after the abismal results of the A prototype, they scrapped and rebuilt a new prototype in the winter of 1944.
