Hirschjäger H30 Projekt Alpha-Karabiner
In late 1944, when it became clear that the tide of war was shifting in the Allies' favor, Hirschjäger set out to design a new "Wonder Waffe", or "Wonder Weapon", to win Germany the war. In December of 1944, Wilhelm Hirschjäger proposed an idea to Hitler, an idea for a gun that didn't just fire conventional bullets. After just five minutes of his presentation, Hitler agreed to begin production of the gun. On Christmas Eve that same year, Wilhelm fell from a ladder in the warehouse while retrieving parts to construct the working prototype. He died the next day. Control of the company was handed over to his daughter, Melina Hirschjäger, who continued her father's work on the weapon. In March of 1945, two working guns were built and tested, both proving that the concept worked. The concept was the have a spinning disk on either side of the gun to produce kinetic energy. When the gun was fired, a bit of that energy would be used to help speed the bullet along, giving the gun an ever higher muzzle velocity and range. The bullet also left a tracer-like effect behind it, earning the nickname "Ladungsschussgewehr", or "Charge-shot Rifle". After Germany lost, Milena escaped to Argentina, where she continued working until the US government offered her asylum.
