The name of the original plane gave me an idea. Im not saying it was a good idea, but an idea nonetheless. Spawn in water or at an airfield. In water make sure to retract landing gear.
To takeoff, pitch up and use VTOL to angle the wings up slightly. (Obviously use throttle too).
In air deactivate the gyroscope (group 8) and fly normally.
To land lower speed and activate gyroscope. Lower gear if landing on an airstrip.

@BeastHunter actually no. The only xml mod was to make the surfboard 10 times as bouyant. The legs might just have less drag from being circular shapes
