Developed in the mid 1940s, this aircraft was to be the replacement for the C-47. When it became apparent that jets were a better option, the project was takem off top priority. However, it has seen service in many small, little developed countries. It is famous for being able to land on even the roughest runways, and was even modified with arresting gear by some navies.
