BAE Systems A-12 Gale
Overview
A compact attacker, suitable for COIN, reconnaissance and CAS missions. Designed as an export aircraft by BAE Systems, it was sold to USAF in the 90s. They then distributed it to various defence forces, such as the Afghan Air Force. Cheap and fairly competent, it saw moderate service. After being proven in combat, developing militaries applied for small batches to supplement their air power. 76 aircraft were produced in total, all in one simple variant - 60 of these belonged to the Americans. Only 9 have been lost.
Its armament was primarily sourced from already established weapon systems, of which the US had huge stock piles. This was a deliberate design choice, to reduce operating costs drastically, and ensure easy logistical access.
