The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 "Foxbat" is a Soviet-era supersonic interceptor and reconnaissance aircraft designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich bureau. First flown in 1964 and introduced in 1970, it was one of the fastest military aircraft ever produced, capable of reaching speeds up to Mach 2.83, with reported speeds even exceeding Mach 3 in some cases, although this risked engine damage.

The MiG-25 is characterized by its large, boxy frame, high-mounted wings, and twin-engine design, which enabled it to reach extremely high altitudes (above 70,000 feet) and intercept fast-moving targets like bombers and reconnaissance aircraft. Its robust radar system and four air-to-air missiles made it a formidable interceptor during the Cold War.

Despite its impressive speed and altitude capabilities, the MiG-25 was less agile compared to other fighters and had limited maneuverability. It was primarily designed to counter high-speed threats such as the American SR-71 Blackbird and high-altitude bombers, but its heavy structure and older technology placed limitations on its overall combat versatility. Nevertheless, the MiG-25 was a significant component of Soviet air defenses and left a lasting legacy in aviation history.
