History: In November of 1917, Albatros designers decided to create an aircraft that would fit the "N" designation (twin-seat, single-engine night aircraft). A few days later and the N.XVIII (N.18) prototype had been built. Test flights revealed that it was one of, if not the, fastest planes to be built in that time period. The aircraft was also well armored, allowing it to take more damage than its counterparts. It was also equipped with two fuel tanks so that in the event that one caught on fire, it could be jettisoned from the plane (function does not work on this). It was well armed as well, making it an instant favorite with the pilots who first flew them. Sadly for the N.XVIII, it did not enter service until early 1918 and with only two squadrons being outfitted with the new aircraft before the war ended.
