In 1942, the Cazanian air force sought a replacement for its aging CF1-3’s. The new aircraft first flew in 1945, with production starting in 1946. For the time however it was considered largely obsolete compared to the aircraft of the Ternians. At the outbreak of the Ternian Invasion or Cazan in 1951, the CF1-4 saw minor success, but the majority were quickly destroyed in battle due to either being outperformed in dogfights, or being hit on the ground before they could get in the air. Most pilots said the fighter was very sluggish, and a poor, rushed design.
