Test chopper 7

34.5k GhostHTX  6.2 years ago
Auto Credit Based on GhostHTX's Test chopper

Another prototype for my Chopper Challenge entry. If any kind individual could test this whirlybird out and report back, I would be very greatful.

This is a proof of concept / technology demonstrator.

She is controlled thus;

Vtol controlls rotor rpm
Throttle controls rotor pitch
Yaw controls yaw (via gyros)
Pitch controls the rotor assembly pitch up / down this can also be trimmed using, well, trim.
Roll controls the rotor assembly roll left / right

AG8 toggles the gyro stabilisation
AG7 toggles pilot controls on /off (pitch/roll/trim)
AG6 toggles gunner controls (use cam 1 for a gunners eye view) pitch and roll control the turret and sensor head - AG6 and 7 should be used separately, not together, otherwise it is impossible to hit anything.
AG5 toggles the cruise control. Use trim to set the angle of attack of the rotors. Careful with giving her too much trim down. The rotors clip the rear fuselage.

To take off, vtol full up (full revs on the rotors). Then throttle up to 10% You should now be flying. Try to get her moving using pitch to nose her down. Use throttle to controll climb/sink and use roll left/right to turn (take it easy with this). Take care to pay attention to the engine overspeed warning. If this happens you need to either throttle back (vtol down) or increase rotor pitch (throttle up).
As a prototype I know thst she is incomplete and imperfect, please be gentle with her and let me have your comments?

Oh, on the pointy end, she has a rotary cannon in the turret, 14 Brimstone agms (thanks Mikoyanster) 4 Stinger A/SAMs in wingtip packs and a heap of countermeasures.

Flys good but if you barely touched the steering it would flip over and fly to the ground @GhostHTX

Roundels. Warpaint. Right-oh old bean. I was considering making this one an Aussie or Kiwi; you know, some colonial type...

As for keeping her flying and not crashing in a large fire ball, well, the secret is to have an articulating rotor head and just enough gyro stabilisation so that it dampens my ham fisted piloting, but doesnt completely immobilise her. That and swearing. Lots of swearing. @Tang0five

P.s I dabbled in doing helos some time ago as I used to spend a bit of time watching them depart from abz as a nipper. Couldn’t quite get a good flying regime sorted and it was devilishly fiendish at tipping one way or the other and going arse over the obvious. Hats off to you old chap!

Lovely job! Seems pretty stable in flight (when I read the flight manual of course!) needs some roundels and warpaint I think but on the whole this is a nice foray into whirlybirds!

@GhostHTX Of course. One of the better-handling helis I've tried on SP.

Thanks for the feedback. Could you elaborate on the touchyness? @Cheykid
