Anything but control surfaces
I wanted to play around with different forms of aerodynamic control, namely shifting the centre of lift around by folding and extending the wings and horizontal stabilisers, so I've put together a test vehicle using the simple mustang as a base.
It is highly impractical and doesn't fly very well, as it turns out ailerons/elevators are used on pretty much everything for a reason.
Some quirks of the design:
- As it's pitch response is reliant on making it super stable/unstable, pulling up hard is liable to make the aircraft stall, so pitch with gentleness and if you must pull hard, only do so for a couple of moments.
- If you are pulling negative AoA and you try and pitch up, you will pitch down instead, if this happens push your stick forward, wait a moment and then try again.
- If you stall, which you will at some point, push the stick forward and hold until you return to controllable flight.
- If you enter a flat spin, yaw in the opposite direction to your spin and the vectored prop will sort you right out.
Good Luck!!!

@Riskitforabiscuit this still works better than my 1st custom plane
@Pakdaaircraftindustries I think the AD-1 is more similar to a swing wing system? Either way its a very cool piece of kit, I think the asymmetry looks so sick. The SAW is such a cool concept as well, definately much more sensible and effective application of the idea than my hunk of junk lmao!
Hm a plane does this irl , the NASA (SAW) and the AD-1
I like this.
@CatdogAerospace You gotta be really bored. Some weapons grade daydreaming
@Riskitforabiscuit thanks all jokes aside how did you even get the idea to build this abomination
@CatdogAerospace Well, the best of luck to you, it's definately an interesting bird to fly
@Riskitforabiscuit lol I'll be the one flying it
@CatdogAerospace Well if they do, I hope I'm not standing anywhere near it lol
Someone should build this irl
