Background:
After a Soviet-backed coup attempt and the violent conflict that followed, the Pacific Republic realized they needed a reliable, powerful ground attack aircraft to provide close air support to troops on the ground. Using advanced new technology from the Americans, the A-55 Sandshark was created with features such as an active flight stability mode, countermeasure systems, and powerful 50mm cannons. First flown in 1960, the Sandshark entered service in early 1961. However, the aircraft proved to be unruly and difficult to fly, and was retired less than a decade after its short production run.
