CH-47F Chinook (AAAvn vers)
The Boeing CH-47F Chinook is a heavy lift/troop transport helicopter initially produced as just the CH-47 in 1962, from then the continuous engine upgrades and advancements in helicopter technology have made the chinook one of the strongest lift helicopters in the west, serving with the US army for a little under 60 years and pulling far more than it’s own weight (no pun intended) by acting as a way for heavy artillery pieces to be rapidly relocated and relatively large numbers of infantry to be deployed in a remote area.
Australia in particular got the first shipment of chinooks in 1974 with the CH-47D variant, initially the ADF (Australian Defence Force) wanted UH-60 blackhawks, but after evaluation it was decided to go with the CH-47 as heavy supplies would need to be lifted on the regular outside and within training exercises and even wartime. In the early 2000s the US decided to upgrade it’s entire fleet of CH-47s to CH-47F models and in 2007 the ADF decided to do the same, upgrading and acquiring new CH-47Fs.
Overall the Chinook has proven invaluable to armies around the world and even at times as disaster relief.
