Lockheed NF-104A
Heya, Zerø here. And say hello to the supersonic dart. Not just any supersonic dart however, it's The Right Stuff.
Also, challenge submission.
Aircraft Description:
The Lockheed NF-104A was an American mixed-power, high-performance, supersonic aerospace trainer that served as a low-cost astronaut training vehicle for the North American X-15 and projected Boeing X-20 Dyna-Soar programs. Three aircraft were modified from existing Lockheed F-104A Starfighter airframes, and served with the Aerospace Research Pilots School between 1963 and 1971, the modifications included a small supplementary rocket engine and a reaction control system for flight in the stratosphere. Controls & Features:
Controls:
Pitch, Yaw, Roll
: Basic Flight Control
Throttle
: Engine Power
Brake / Trim
: Deploy Airbrakes
Activate1
: Enable Rocketdyne AR2-3 ignition and enable Reaction Control System
Features:
- Reaction Control System that can be used during high altitude flights, activate AG1 to enable.
- Realistic liquid-fueled Rocket Propulsion Simulation. VTOL up to operate, only lasts for 100s on full throttle.
Author's Note:
- The aircraft is a bit rushed, so it's not really realistic or anything. As such, a couple of updates may come soon in order to improve the aircraft's performance.
- The flight model is wack, so watch your rate of descent during landing and level flight. If you ask, yes, this regularly happens on my aircraft.
- There is still no suspension on the landing gear, the aircraft is meant to be played on mobile low physics.
XML Updates:
- Ver 1.0 (26th February 2023)
- Raw version.
- Ver 2.0 (26th February 2023, 5 hours after published)
- The addition of rocket engine simulation.
- Reduced part count from 99 to 95 in order to fit the challenge criteria, as well as the removal of some of the detail.
Other than those, I'll see you around somewhere.
And as always,
