ISUZU GEMINI FxF WRC1985
Please Enjoy!
This is a remake of "ISUZU GEMINI Sports Evolution WRC" that I made about a year ago. The inspiration for this work was Sm10684's Group B Challenge. This project seems to have been cancelled, but it was a good experience for me to make a rally machine of the era of enthusiasm once again.
Overview
The Isuzu Gemini F×F (Four-by-Four) was a rally car produced by Isuzu to compete in the WRC in 1985.
In order to receive the homologation required to enter the WRC, 200 road cars were manufactured and sold in accordance with Group B regulations. Each road car was priced at 9 million Japanese yen. The body structure was based on the monocoque of the new Gemini, which was announced and released in the same year for marketing purposes, but the internal structure and drive system were completely different.
In 1985, Isuzu launched the second-generation Gemini, the first completely independently developed Gemini in 17 years, replacing the first-generation Gemini, which was designed based on the Opel Kadett. The Gemini F×F was created to promote the second-generation Gemini and to carry on the rally image cultivated by the first-generation Gemini.
The name of the car was based on the fact that the second-generation Gemini was commonly called the "FF" (front-engine, front-wheel-drive) Gemini to differentiate it from the rear-wheel-drive first-generation Gemini, and "FF "FF" was named as an abbreviation of 4×4, which represents four-wheel drive.
In terms of vehicle design, Orient Speed, which was the motorsports division of Isuzu, took the lead, and with the cooperation of Opel, which already had a track record in the WRC within the same GM family as Isuzu, and Irmscher, which was its tuning manufacturer, it was in effect a joint development between Isuzu and Opel via GM. In effect, it was a joint development between Isuzu and Opel through GM. As a result, the drivetrain design of the Gemini F×F is similar to the Opel Cadet Rally 4×4 of the same era.
For the WRC, GM organized a works team, "GM Japan Handler", with support from GM. The team was based at Orient Speed in Suginami-ku, Tokyo.
Sony was the main sponsor of the team, and the Betamax brand was prominently displayed. The official name of the team was "Isuzu Betamax GM Japan Handler Racing Team". The official name of the team was "Isuzu Betamax GM Japan Handler Racing Team" or "Betamax Racing" for short.
The Gemini F×F continued to compete in Group B until the final year of the season, and as is typical of Japanese cars, excelled in the Safari Rally, but because it had the backing of Opel, it also excelled in the European round.

Although we are in violation of the regulations regarding this work, we initially started working on it with the intention of participating in the Group B Challenge.
