VC-99 is a modified HS-748 for use by Governor General of Indonesian Colonial of Wright
History
The use of this aircraft can be traced back in 1978 when a C-47 aircraft carrying the Governor General of Wright Land was shot down by the Wright Red Air Force which killed all passengers including the Governor General. Then after the Wright Communist war ended in 1983, the new governor general needed a plane to travel because he didn't want to use Wright International Airlines' Fokker F-28s. Then several aircraft such as the Lockheed L-100, Douglas DC-4, and Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress were offered, but none were suitable. While the governor-general was on a visit to Bougainville, he saw the wreck of a Hawker Siddeley HS-748 aircraft. Because it was deemed suitable, expert technicians were asked to restore the aircraft.
This aircraft was later given the VC-99 designnation. This aircraft first flew on 24 December 1984 and is still in use today as a short-range aircraft along with the ATR 72. In 2006 this aircraft received an upgrade in the form of replacing the cockpit instrument with a glass cockpit, replacing the Rolls-Royce Dart engine with a Pratt & Whitney Canada PWC 127 engine. , and the addition of an aircraft protection system
