“Baron will be thankful for these.”
-Commander Fire seeing the F-48 for the first time
Concerns were spoken about the enemy air superiority very early in the Human-Darox war, or as it is more commonly referred to The 1st Space War, where there was no way to create a safe and reliable supply route to any major military force. In a desperate measure to stave off what was thought to be the inevitable end, General Finke made a deal with Lockheed Martin. The Golden Military needed a new interceptor capable of quickly responding to the enemy air force and outrunning them in atmosphere. This resulted in many prototypes including the concept for the XF-2989 Trident Fighter. After three months of redesigning an already finished fighter craft with new engines, weapons, and a special gold and REDACTED coating that would see continued use in the GMA, the F-48A Rex was ready for production. The first ten models were delivered to an airforce base in West Virginia, United States on June 5, 2985. After the first few weeks of success the Rex would be set up as the main interceptor of the Golden Military’s air force until the F-2990 was released.
