Gloucester's meteor was the only Allied fighter jet in action during World War II, initially limited by the size of the fuselage and the size of the wings, and the thrust of the Wieland engine was very limited. Meteor's flight performance was so bad that it didn't change until it switched to Rolls-Royce 's Derwent engine.
