WIKIPEDIA: The Mikoyan-Gurievich MiG-15 (in Russian: ???-15, NATO designation: Bassoon1) was a jet fighter developed in the Soviet Union by Artiom Mikoyán and Mikhail I. Guriévich in 1947. It was one of the first jet fighters. with successful arrow wings, and achieved great fame over the skies of Korea, where in the early stages of the Korean War, it surpassed all enemy fighters with straight wings during the daytime fighting. The MiG-15 also served as a starting point for the development of the most advanced MiG-17 that remained an effective threat to US supersonic fighters over North Vietnam in the 1960s. The MiG-15 is considered to have been the aircraft of reaction more produced in history, with more than 12 000 copies manufactured. Licensed production outside the Soviet Union (Czechoslovakia, China and Poland) may have raised the total to more than 18,000 aircraft. The MiG-15 is often mentioned along with the North American F-86 American Saber in the lists of the best fighters of the Korean War and compared to the fighters of other times.
