Convair CV-880 Preview 0.9
This is my Convair CV-880 preview. Updated the engines with thrust reversers with animated shields, rebuilt most of a cockpit area, added some gyros. Still to add interior and livery and finish the upper part of a cockpit glasing. though regarding mechanics and flight model it seems to be complete
Controls:
Has completely functional Flaps, Landing gear, Nav. Lights, Aileron trim and two cockpit cameras. It is a 1:1 scale and weight . It flies quite realistically. Can totally work without mods, they are eyecandys only
Controls:
G - Landing gear;
AG1 + THRUST - Thrust reversers. Activate than INCREASE thrust, like on real aircraft)
AG2 + VTOL slider - Flaps; (0% = Flaps retracted, 100% DOWN = Flaps deployed)
AG3 + VTOL slider - Spoilers (= Airbrakes, 100% UP = Deployed, 0% = Retracted, i added a compensating mechanism to the stabiliser, but still tends to pitch up the plane a bit, than stabilize, use on approach with partial deployment (pitch compensator works between 0 and 1/2 UP, above that it pitches down to push plane to the runway) or after touch down with full deployment)
AG4 - Aileron trim (VTOL Up- roll left, Down - right) + Ascend autopilot (Activate and set trim for ascend/descend. Can turn gently, than stabilizes
AG5 - Engines. Had to add a control group because smoke emitters do not work otherwise. Wish devs add smoke to the engines themselves
AG6 + VTOL Map scale in cockpit;
AG7 - Landing. Lights;
AG8 - Ground steering (sensitivity adjustment, when AG8 deactiveted - steers to the limit, when activated - steers 5 degrees) Positions - AG8 - ON on Take off/Landing, AG8 OFF for the ground movements
Take off procedure - Trim 1/2 up, flaps 1/2 down, full thrust , Rotate at about 145 MPH
Landing procedure - Full flaps, trim ~ 70% up, 55% thrust with full flaps at approach, 40% near the runway, approach speed 200 mph, over the runway drop thrust to 25%, deploy spoilers (AG3+ VTOL UP) if needed after touchdown. If bounced up, do not pitch down, just let it drop gently, nose down touch can be fatal).
Ascending - AG4, 90% thrust, control ascend by trim slider (VTOL strictly 0%)
Level flight - 75% thrust, trim ~5% UP. AG 4 can make a soft controllable autopilot (VTOL strictly 0%) - you can turn a bit. I reccomend only using an autopilot with AG4 active, especially in windy conditions - othervise stock autopilot has troubles controlling the plane due to high inertia

@QingyuZhou on this plane i just placed them on two rotators. One is used for compensating for airbrakes (they are made from wings, not vanila airbrakes, and tend to pitch up the plane as in real life, and i decided to compensate them first because you use them more often and more rapid than flaps) and second is for trim. That works fine. I just stacked them on top each other and connected the stabiliser to the last one. And it is also convenient to change the range on them separately. The only problem - range on the one compensating the spoilers is very small, like 1 degree, and i had to put a value in XML, each time you select it ingame - if a range is below 5 - the game puts it to 0...
p.s. i tried 3 rotators - for flaps, spoilers and trim - it works fine. I just got bored trying to tune the range on them simultaniously and decided that compensating flaps is not that important, especially making a replica of 1950s plane. Anyway, on all my planes its easier to land on keyboard when you adjust trim continiously, i just put the trim on buttons R and F in the same direction as W and S for pitch. It is very convenient.
P.p.s. i like how you tuned a flap compensator. It's just the right setting.
So, trim is like rotating the whole stabilizers. The problem is that I want it nose-up when I extend the flaps, but there's no way to do that unless I rotate the whole stabilizers. That eventually causes the trim to be too weak on my A340.
@vonhubert
@QingyuZhou at this one one door appeats to be stuck, but i can send you the working ones so you scale and put them in plase with fine tuner. Btw, checked your plane more - great job with wings flexibility and especially flaps. Just one note - modern planes including your one are changing trim not with changing elevator trim, but by rotating the whole horisontal stabilizer assembly, you can also copy the rotators for adjustable stabiliser from this cv-880. Btw, i will upload a later version of this one soon
Yeah, gears look cool. I'm not really good at gears though
@asteroidbook345 Yeah, you re right... Well, anyway gonna upload a completely finished one in a week-two, with full animated cockpit interior and livery.
@Solarisaircraft well, thats why its v0.9... actually nose and cockpit windows are quite similiar in shape on those planes, but i still need to delete upper windows, make the rear lower ones wider and add a cockpit interior
The Tu-104 nose tho...
@Franticmatty no problem) BTW, was in france a maonth ago) My mothers friends bought a 18 century villa in Ancy le Franc and made a hotel there)
@vonhubert looks awesome! Unfortunately I won't be able to fly it for some time... I'm in France =p
@Franticmatty Reuploded plane i ve sent you some time ago and deleted, had to correct some crude mistakes
