Built origanaly in the 1980's, this aircraft was built exactly like a P-51D but they called it P-51xr because it was built after wwii. Its purpose was to air race and compete in the unlimited gold air racing class in Reno Nevada. This did not have a Merlin engine for long, after it was built, they put a Griffon engine in it (the engine that makes the props turn counter rotate. It is still here today and getting rebuilt from getting burned badly from a fire. Come see this race in real life at the National Championship Reno Air Races in september.
