The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine air-superiority multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics for the United States Air Force. The aircraft first flew in 1974 and was introduced in 1978.

During the Vietnam War, as part of the Lightweight Fighter Program, it revealed the need for an air superiority fighter and better air-to-air training. The aircraft was first designated as the YF-16.

The aircraft itself is currently used by the US, NATO Allies in Europe and non-NATO allies in Asia and Africa (also Chile and Venezuela in South America).
