Supermarine Scimitar
I was sat there thinking "wouldn't it be great to have a beautiful old British jet with some serious power behind it?" And this is the result of that daydream. The last aircraft ever made by the legends at Supermarine, the Scimitar. First flown in 1956 and served with the RN till 1969 with a total of 76 aircraft made. An alarming statistic is that over 50% of these were written off due to accidents. Well shouldn't that make your not-so-great series I hear you ask? Well no. The Scimitar was the navy's first heavy powerful jet aircraft. The ships in question to carry them were small and there was not much room for error. It was very much a pioneering time for carrier aviation changing from the old prop driven to the fast and heavy jets. The Navy then, (not unlike now) had a great deal to learn. Enough rambling. Always VTOL down for the following; (flaps always are moving with these though!) AG1 for folding wings, 2 for arrestor hook, 3 ditches ext tanks, 4 for pretty little landing lights! Decals lacking I'm afraid, haven't sussed a way to attach them to dihedral wings without too much outline.
