Gotha Go P.74 A "Zehn"

41.5k MrVaultech  7.5 years ago

In the September of 1944, the Gotha Aircraft Company was given the job of series production on Dr. Eugen Sänger's prototype medium bomber and night fighter. Powered by two HeS 011 turbojets, and having an armorment of a Mk 108 30mm cannon in the nose (Just below the cockpit) and two 12.7mm guns in the wing roots. With a projected speed of 724 Kilometers per hour, and three fuel tanks (One tank behind cockpit, two in wings) carrying 4913 liters of fuel.
The four compartmentalized bomb bays each carry a Bomb 25, capable of destroying targets on the ground in level flight.

In December 1944, a prototype was built, and demonstrated to the Fürher in person at the Augsburg Airfield, the prototype being flown by Karl Baur for roughly an hour. The Fürher was enthusiastic of this new fighter/bomber and ordered all possible resources towards it's completion within a year at the earliest.
The prototype, after having all known issues fixed and being ready for combat withing the time constraints, was put into the FliegerKorps X of the Luftflotte 5, flying over England on 7 occasions and shooting down 9 Spitfires, and having a chance encounter with a Lancaster on the way back to Germany after it's last sortie.
After Flying over England, the prototype, now known as "Zehn" from it's kill count, was one of the first German aircraft over America acting as an escort for the Amerika bombers, while also assisting in low altitude bombing attacks.
In January of 1946, Zehn was intercepted over Washington DC with her bomber escorts and was shot down by a combination of AA and American Mustangs, thus ending the long story of this prototype.

So, those downloading this beauty, please enjoy the flight, and bombing those unfortunate to be within range of your bombs!
