RJ / HP.50 Heyford IV 4.4

244k RamboJutter  3 days ago

Introduction

I have always liked the Heyford, its different. It actually served into WW2 retiring in 1941.

What if instead of retiring the concept they had actually developed a fourth variant with more powerful engines, redesigned wings and fuselage to be more streamlined and include retractable undercarriage, internal weapons bays and added more streamlined defensive armament? That would have looked something like this (maybe).

I decided that for once I'm going to keep the part count down below 500 so it should be accessible for all.

Aircraft of this era were relatively simple when it comes to functionality, no airbrakes, no flaps, slow and heavy, I have tried to replicate this. Max speed is 212mph which is around 50mph faster than the Mk3 but 50mph slower than the HP Hampden.

Controls

AG1 = start engines
AG3 = open bomb bays and arm weapons

    @Boeing727200F well the fus, top wing, fins and tail are 90% scale Heyford so maybe the Do17 is a knockoff Heyford =)

    @RamboJutter my first thought when I saw it was "does the lower wing detach?". Maybe do Nikitin-Shevchenko IS-2 instead. Its lower wing retracts into the upper one.
    Maybe do that but with a different fuselage.

    @EternalDarkness Thanks ED, if you think this is weird you should see some of the stuff I discarded as I thought it was too weird even for me =) PS should i do a MK5 where the bottom wing is able to be jettisoned... hmmm
