UNSC AC-D81 Condor Gunship

20.7k SpartanSR91  yesterday

Most D81 Condors are a de-weaponized civilian version of the more common D79 Pelican Dropship, just with a Slipspace drive in the added rear hull. This Condor is anything but, as it fits 3 chin gun assemblies from Pelicans, but removes the 70mm rotary cannons in favor of six M8C Grindell/Galilean Nonlinear Cannons. Four of the six wing hardpoints fit Anvil-II missile pods, each pod containing 10 missiles. The remaining 2 hardpoints each fit a pair of Shiva-class Nuclear Missiles. If that still wasn't enough, four Anvil-IV missile batteries have been added to the dorsal hull, each holding 8 missiles.

Controls:

Pitch/Roll/Yaw: Standard Controls

Throttle: Engage Hover Engines (around 80% for lift-off)

VTOL: Forward/Reverse Thrust

AG1: Toggle Missiles (see onboard weapons for more details)

AG8: Toggle Gyroscopic Stabilizer

Onboard Weapons:

M8C Grindell/Galilean Nonlinear Cannon: The Spartan Laser's bigger cousin, the M8C is a heavy laser cannon fitted to G79H-TC Pelican Gunships as a secondary weapon for the pilot. Autoaims within 15 degrees of craft direction. Takes 1.5 seconds to charge, fires continuously for 2 seconds, then takes 2.5 seconds to cool down and recharge. Cooldown can be skipped by releasing fire.

Anvil-II: Air-to-Surface missile mounted in pods fitted to the wing pylons of D77-TC Pelicans during the Human/Covenant War. Can also lock on to air targets.

Anvil-IV: Heavy Air-to-Surface missile fired vertically from AC-220 Vulture Gunships. Cannot target Aircraft.

Shiva-class Nuclear Missile: Exo-atmospheric payload delivery system with a multi-stage fission/fusion warhead. Also works in-atmosphere. For when you REALLY don't want to see the target anymore....

Additional Notes:

  • The propulsion system has been upgraded, and is far more responsive now.

  • The Type-V HAVOK Missiles have been swapped out for Shiva-Class Warheads, and can now cause a significantly larger blast.

  • Anvil-II and Anvil-IV missiles have been altered to handle better in-flight.

  • Each M8C Laser Cannon has a maximum effective range of 5 miles (8 km), and will not fire at higher ranges.

  • The gyroscopic stabilizer will automatically deactivate at airspeeds above 180 mph with the landing gear retracted.

  • Be careful when switching targets in flight, the lasers will attempt to face the new target, and can throw the condor off balance.

  • Shiva-class nuclear missiles are found on pretty much every UNSC capital ship, and when detonated inside a shield membrane, compound the force of the explosion against the hull.

  • The glowing 'nubs' on the outside of the condor's hull are meant to be shield generators. The more you see, the stronger the shield facing you. (There are no actual shields on the build, but it would explain just how much of a beating this thing can take)

    @SpartanSR91 I think you should

@Kerbango The in-game autopilot also zeros Trim, IIRC. I wanted an easy to control forward and reverse for the engines that seamlessly transitions to and from fixed wing flight.

@CatdogAerospace Thanks, I'm wondering if I should build a Wolverine next.

Nice. 1 thing FYI. When you activate the game's autopilot, it zeros VTOL.
