Figure-22M Bomber (Russian: ??-22?, English: Tu-22M, NATO Code: Backfire, Translation: Backfire, also known as: Figure-26), is a Soviet type of dual-swept wing swept wing supersonic long-range strategy bomber.
The FIG. 22M bomber is a modified version of FIG. 22 and can be used for both strategic nuclear bombing and tactical bombing, especially for carrying large-power anti-ship missiles. They can quickly attack at long distances, attack aircraft carrier formations, and deploy them at any location. The strategic space is a huge deterrent?
The Tu-22M bomber was developed by the Tupolev Design Bureau of the Soviet Union (????????/now the United Aviation Manufacturing Group of Russia) [1] and made its first flight in 1972. A total of about 500 aircraft were produced between 1969 and 1993. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Its complex maintenance, coupled with Russia's economic difficulties, stopped production in 1993 and there are currently about 114 aircraft still in service in Russia.

Development background

As the Soviet Union’s first supersonic bomber, the Soviet Union’s Tu-22 bomber was not very satisfactory in performance and range. After filling up the oil and missiles, the aircraft could not perform supersonic flight. Even if it reaches the target, it will reach Mach 1.5. It was also impossible to effectively avoid the interception of NATO fighter aircraft and air defense missiles. Therefore, the Soviets were not satisfied with the bomber, only a small amount of equipment, and instructed the design bureaus to develop the next generation of supersonic bombers to replace Figure-16 and Figure-22.
