History: In 1979, Panzer Corps. (which was a relatively new tank manufacturing company) commissioned several of their chief designers to create a tank capable of effectively defeating Soviet convoys. The PzKw.XVII series was created, with the Ausf.P (Model P) going into mass production. The tanks never actually fought, but they did manage to gain vital intelligence on which routes the Soviets used for certain things (tank routes, supply convoys, etc.). The series was cancelled after the Ausf.X was introduced in 1997.
