Due to escalating tensions in Europe, the RFC called for an airplane that was able to strafe infantry, trenches, and light vehicles accurately. In 1909, the Conwalth brothers came up with a solution: The London Gunship. The London Gunship featured 1 new 40mm low velocity mortar pod capable of raining terror on its target, and no defensive armament. The gunship first flew in mid 1909, but a few problems were found: 1 mortar pod lacked enough ammo to put a dent in enemy forces, and the aircraft would be an easy target for fighters, which were under development.
The solution to this was the London Gunship mod 1910. It featured 2 40mm mortar pods, and placed a gunnery position with a machine gun near the tail. 2 prototypes flew, but the RFC cancelled the aircraft in favor of bomber aircraft which were under development and could carry heavier ordinance.
Both London Gunship mod 1910 prototypes did see combat briefly. They were used in the Britain-Italian crisis in 1911, and were proven to be effective. However, both were lost in crashes in late 1911 due to bad weather. No more London Gunships were ever built again.

Nice little story
Yup @UglyBull
Changing to RFC then, but that's why I said the history was made up. @XVIindustries
RAF was established in 1918 it was the Royal Flying Corps not RAF and nothing of this size would have been possible in 1910,
