The Il-76 transport aircraft was developed by the Soviet Union Ilyushin aviation group in the 1970s. As a military transport aircraft development project, it was proposed and began to be designed in the late 1960s. As the main force of Soviet military airlift, an-12 has appeared small load and insufficient range. In order to improve its military air transport capacity, the Soviet Union urgently needs a new type of military transport aircraft with longer range, greater load and faster speed. Therefore, it decided to develop the Il-76, which is similar to the U.S. c-141 heavy transport aircraft in both shape and load capacity, so as to make up for the shortage of Soviet military air transport capacity.
