Willow-class LPD
History:
In late 2019 the Saltwater Navy was looking to expand its amphibious assault fleet. To begin with the four Willow-class frigates then in service received a relatively simple modification, replacing the semi-nuclear cannon with a 5.5" cannon for shore bombardment and adding landing craft davits in the cargo hatches.
.
After experience off Maywar the ships underwent a more thorough refit. The eight anti-ship missile tubes were replaced with extra surface-to-air missiles and smaller land-attack missiles were fitted amidships, with reloads below deck. The landing craft davits were moved forwards along with the stability floats, making room for a rear boat well that could fit two more landing craft. The aircraft lift was also moved forwards to a position just behind the superstructure.
.
The SWS Hammerwood was the first ship to be refitted, with all four original ships receiving the overhaul. Two extra Willow-class ships were also brought into service, with one ship coming from the mothball fleet and another being new-build.
.
The Willow-class landing platform dock is available to all SPMRP nations and costs $180 million per unit.
