Users: United States Navy

Built: 1953
In Commission: 1957-1987

Following soon after the Nautilus, the Seawolf was the second Nuclear submarine ever constructed. While her hull was of a similar design, her Reactor was unique. While the Nautilus used a pressurized water reactor, the Seawolf was designed with a unique S2G liquid metal cooled reactor made by general electric. Although the sodium cooled reactor showed greater efficiency, issues with corrosion ultimately led to the Seawolf's reactor being replaced by a standard Pressurized Water Reactor.

While the Nautilus was built as more of an experimental vessel, the Seawolf was made to act as more of an Attack Submarine. A powerful BQR passive sonar was built into the bow, alongside six 533mm torpedo tubes.
This role would shift in 1971 when a series of modifications (which included an extension to her length) turned her into a 'Special Project Platform'. Alongside the USS Halibut, the Seawolf took part in operation Ivy Bells, an ambitious espionage project which involved tapping into Soviet underwater communication cables.

With her ability to deploy divers, it is likely the Seawolf took part in many other operations as well. The Seawolf would remain a special projects boat up until her decommissioning in 1987.

@randomusername Wow, hehe. The Control surfaces do use very wide wings scaled down to size for ensuring responsive control, so I imagine that might make this thing glide well.
