YF-23 'Black Widow II'
The Black Widow II is a fighter jet that distinguished itself by its very exotic (and beautiful) design and its level of stealth that no aircraft can match (including the F-22 and F-35). It also featured a very advanced fly-by-wire system that could sense every bump on the runway. A thing that made this aircraft very unique is that the YF-23 pav 2 (the grey ghost) had YF-120 engines that had variable bypass ducts. This means that the YF-23 could open and close specific bypasses in the engines on command. With this feature, the YF-23 could transition from flying efficient with air going through the bypasses, to flying with pure power with all bypasses closed and all the air going to the combustion area. The only other aircraft with variable bypasses is the SR-71 Blackbird and the A-10 Oxcart. Sadly, the pentagon turned down the YF-120, and instead went with the YF-119 which was more conventional without variable bypasses. At the end of the ATF at 1991 the YF-22 was chosen. After several years, Lockheed finished the production variant of the YF-22, the F-22 which now dominates the sky. Both YF-23 remained in storage after the ATF program was concluded, but in 1996 both airframes were transferred to museums (Dayton, Ohio and Torrance, La).
I still to this day believe it is superior to the YF-22 and i hope we will see some kind of resemblance in the NGAD-program.

one of my favorite aircraft!
Oh and GORGEOUS aircraft, just wonderful
Fun fact: the only reason the 22 is in service, instead of the 23, is the navy. When the ATF program was going on, the navy wanted a plane that could be carrier operated, the YF-22 showed the most hope of doing so, that's why the 22 was chosen, because the 23 outshine the 22 in every way, and the navy after the ATF program CANNALED THEIR ORDER / WANT (or what ever its called) FOR THE ATF PROGRAM. the 23 is the best fighter jet in the world, in my eyes.
@421stFighterSquadron oh ok :)
@PannerTerkins Coming Soon, Im working on it :)
I thought you were making the YF-118G?
Excellent 10/10
my only complaint with this plane is that, similar to alot of your planes, it doesnt seem to have any cap on the top speed and if you leave the throttle pinned it will just keep accelerating until the vibrations eventually become too severe for it to fly. Other than that i agree with Deezdudes that this is the most realistic YF-23 on the website by far and it looks and flys amazing
Perfection nothing else to be said.
beautiful! take me goddamn upvote, I'll play with it later
This is an amazing build! I suggest you add a afterburner
Most realistic YF-23 on the site so far. Sadly i can't upvote this magnificent build.
